Franklin George Vaughn Marshall earned his B. Sc. in math–physics, his PD Ed. and then taught mathematics at an underprivileged Calgary high school where in five years of teaching he was twice chosen teacher of the year. Marshall then earned his law degree, graduating in 1979 near the very top of his class, winning various scholarships and prizes in law school and being twice awarded clerkships with the Attorney General.

In addition to the banking lawsuits he handled, Marshall also conducted hundreds of criminal cases in his early career. His criminal practice ranged from a short stint with the provincial prosecutor's office followed by federal prosecutions under the Aeronautics Act and other federal statutes. He also defended individuals accused of crimes ranging from stock fraud to murder. He conducted his first trial in 1977 and handled criminal and banking lawsuits throughout his first decade of practice where he spent most of his time at the courthouse conducting bench trials, jury trials, preliminary inquiries, hearings, examinations for discovery, appeals  – and watching leading lawyers conduct  their trials.   NEXT>>
