During his
work in the United States, Marshall consulted with and used the
services of trial and jury consultants with experience in some of
the most interesting cases in the US. In addition to providing
services to lawyers in commercial cases such as the ones Mr.
Marshall was then involved, these consultants had experience in
renowned cases such as the Charles Manson, Daniel and Philip
Berrigan, Watergate, Manuel Noriega, Las Vegas hotel fire, Rodney
King and Agent Orange cases, to name a few. While involved with
these consultants, Mr. Marshall was exposed to studies and
information from jury research which provided him with an
eye-opening education in courtroom persuasion, ranging from the
nature of human understanding and communication in the stressful
atmosphere of a courtroom, to the simplification of complex
information to make it understandable to a judge or jury. Mr. Marshall set out early in his practice to learn how to conduct
complex cases by defending large corporations. He spent as much time
as possible in the courtroom to acquire the necessary skills and experience to
eventually act in worthy cases for real people damaged by powerful institutions.
The
lawyers most influencing Marshall were Jack
Major, Cliff O’Brien, Bill Snowdon, Barry Cappello, Paul Chrumka,
Milt Harradence, F. Lee Bailey, Joseph Welsh, William Kunstler,
Earl Warren, Thurgood Marshall,
Morris Dees, Sarah Weddington, Geoffrey Fieger and Edward Bennett
Williams.
