Vaughn
Marshall is a litigation lawyer. He is involved in the
Hepatitis C, Indian Residential Schools, VIOXX and other large lawsuits against big governments and institutions in cases
often exceeding a billion dollars. He has
acted for Canadian and international corporations, governments, foreign and Canadian banks, class
representatives and individuals. For almost 30 years he has been involved in large, complex,
high-stakes banking, criminal, civil, divorce, tort
and other cases, conducting
hundreds of trials, hearings and appeals at all levels of court in Canada and successfully defending over $1 Billion in claims against banks. For the
past decade he has acted for plaintiffs in lawsuits and class
actions against
institutions and governments achieving over $5 Billion in settlements for victims.
Mr. Marshall
began acting in banking lawsuits in 1980 and, from 1984 to 1998,
devoted most of his practice to defending big banks sued by business
borrowers in lawsuits ranging from $5 Million to
$500 Million in court cases in
Canada and the United States. These cases involved the likes of business legends Nelson Skalbania,
Peter Thomas and Peter Pocklington, to name a few. His banking
litigation practice provided him the opportunity of working
with and learning from the best counsel in the country. From 1987
until Mr. Major’s appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada, Mr.
Marshall was co-counsel with Jack
Major, one of Canada’s top trial
lawyers, of Bennett Jones, one of Canada's best law firms, defending Royal Bank of Canada in
a series of
multi-million dollar lender liability lawsuits.
From 1991 until 1998, Marshall defended these cases with
co-counsel Cliff
O'Brien, another top trial lawyer, former
Chairman of Bennett Jones LLP and now a judge of the Alberta Court
of Appeal. NEXT>> |
